Some call it the modern Woodstock of our electronically-entranced generation; we saw it as a weekend to ditch your current day job and personal worries in exchange for wearing the brightest and most ridiculous clothes you could find and dancing with the hundreds of thousands of strangers from across the nation.
For the Electric Forest Festival, people from all walks of life gather from all regions across North America (Canada included) to the tiny (435-person) town of Rothbury, Michigan. There, they come together for weekend to become whoever they may want to be and to enjoy the constant and wide-range of music from a variety of timeless and new artists alike. By day, the temporary inhabitants of this festival would lounge in hammocks, ride the Ferris wheel or watch the bluegrass shows from underneath the shade of the towering trees. It’s not until 10 PM, when the sun sets, that the forest becomes illuminated by the thousands of electrified colors, sounds and people. Then, the going gets weird, and in the depths of the Sherwood forest you’ll experience things entirely anew: a trading post with time-traveling cowboys from the 1800s, a silent disco of live performances that can only be heard with headphones and large neon lights that give the trees life during these witching hours of Festival.
Electric Forest Festival is metamorphic experience because for just one weekend, nothing is as it seems and weird is totally the state of norm. Our Osprey crew who attended Electric enjoyed the diverse crowds, the incredible installations of the forest and the memorizing performances by the artists. We appreciate anyone who stopped by our booth to say hello, buy a pack or grab a free coozie. We hope to see you there next year! In the meantime, here are a few of our favorite snapshots from the weird weekend of Electric Forest.

There’s so much to be seen and heard at the Fest, and we couldn’t be more excited to sponsor this incredible event. We’ll see you there!
Music, art, comedy and community are the elements that combine to make Solid Sound, a three-day festival celebrated at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in the small town of North Adams in The Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. As proud sponsors of the event, we’re excited for this year’s festivities, set to kick off in just a couple of days!
Solid Sound was envisioned by musical geniuses Wilco, though the Fest features many other artists, including those listed in this year’s lineup. Other activities include exhibits at Mass MoCa, an offsite hike led by Patagonia and yours truly on Saturday, a scavenger hunt and bike raffle, art contest, outdoor installations, yoga and more. Check the Activities portion of the Solid Sound website to learn more about some of the other activities you won’t want to miss. For Osprey-specific events, keep reading.

Throughout the Fest, there will be endless competitions in biking, hiking, running and climbing, as well as performances by top notch artists such as Toots and the Maytals and many more!
Not only will there be on-going comps, music and fun, we’ll be there hosting our own events. One such activity will be the infamous Osprey Packs bola ball toss, which you can play to win a pack! All proceeds will be donated to the Blue Sky Fund, which makes your chance to win a pack that much better. ‘Tis the season to be jolly and to listen to caroling favorites. The only problem is: playing those tunes on repeat has the potential to drive even the most spirited singer to want to jingle all the way home. Fortunately, we’ve found something that’s not only brand-sparkling-new — it’s bike-themed, too!
Cheers to a safe, happy and healthy holiday season full of love, laughter and, of course, bikes!
The 19th annual Telluride Blues and Brews music festival took place this last weekend and Osprey Packs was there as always to join in the fun. This year was something special though and it wasn’t just because of the B-52′s, Gov’t Mule or the epic jamming of Phil Lesh and all of his friends. It was because it was Talon the Osprey’s first attendance at a music festival and boy oh boy does that bird know how to get down!
I had a brief moment to ask Talon some questions about his experience…

We’ll be on-hand to celebrate with festival goers, give away great gear and play games to support a great cause! Swing by the Osprey booth, say hello and check out some of the great things we’ll have rocking…

country music played on unamplified stringed instruments (as banjo, fiddle, guitar, and mandolin) and characterized by free improvisation and close usually high-pitched harmony
What you won’t see in the dictionary or read in its definition is the heart, soul and spirit that goes into the music and the incredible celebrations that revolve around the music, such as the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, which is entirely dedicated to enjoying all that bluegrass is.
In its 39th year, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival coincided perfectly (and yet again) with the Summer Solstice, when the sun shines longer than any other day of the year and provides the perfect backdrop for days of musical delight. From Thursday, June 21 through Sunday, the 24, music began in the mid morning and lasted through to midnight, with a lineup of performers with a variety of roots and sounds. Second to last performer Glen Hansard performed on Sunday night; you can get a sample of his newest sounds by clicking on the video below:
Over 39 years, many other performers have brought their unique bluegrass styles to the stage. Via the Festival’s site:
“Since its very beginning, the festival has embraced a wide swath of roots music to create the unique genre of “Telluride Bluegrass.” Recent lineups have welcomed Robert Plant, Mumford & Sons, The Decemberists, Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris, David Byrne, Ani DiFranco, Lyle Lovett, Ryan Adams, Counting Crows, Bonnie Raitt, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, and so many more.”
