Osprey is 40 years young! I fondly recall the moment I selected “Osprey” for the new company, way back in 1974. At that time this beautiful bird was an endangered species and I thought, if that bird can survive the next few tough years, so can this new company! Like the bird, Osprey Packs has flourished since then, and continues to grow and multiply. Over all these years, we at Osprey have had the pleasure to meet and work with some of the finest, warmest people involved in this wonderful, friendly industry. We are indebted to all of you out there who have supported Osprey along the way, through thick and thin, and have made the last 40 years so fun and rewarding!
-Mike Pfotenhauer, Osprey Packs founder and Head Designer

Unless you’ve been living in a deep, dark cave… You may have noticed that there is a lot of cool stuff going on out there. So, we thought it was high-time we started rounding up some of our faves each week. We call it the Osprey Round-Up… Happy Friday!
The weather has turned in the U.S. We can see our breath in the mornings as we bike to work, we can see the snow-capped mountains taunting us throughout the work-week and we’re already packing up the car to get a headstart on our weekend adventures.
We’re always psyched to see folks getting out there and getting after it, exploring and reconnecting with wild places and their own wildness — and putting our packs through the ringer. We’ve been loving all of the photos our Facebook fans have posted over the last couple of weeks, so we decided to highlight a few of our favorites today to inspire us all to head for the hills this weekend.
Music on the Mountaintop is a one of a kind, ecologically driven large-scale music festival, offering first class entertainment as well as educational awareness on current environmental issues. Osprey is a proud sponsor of the festival and we look forward to throwing down each year!
This year we’ve decided to get our Facebook fans involved with the fun!
Here’s how you get involved:
- Visit both Osprey Packs and Music on the Mountaintop on Facebook and “like” each page.
- Comment on this blog post when you do!
On August 22, we’ll pick one winner at random to win a host of awesome prizes! Here’s what’s up for grabs:
- 2 Osprey Vector 22 wheeled travel bags
- 2 Osprey Talon packs
- 2 Music on the Mountaintop Festival AND Camping Passes
All so you and a friend can travel in style to the festival! Good luck!
Unless you’ve been living in a deep, dark cave… You may have noticed that there is a lot of cool stuff going on out there. So, we thought it was high-time we started rounding up some of our faves each Friday. Every month, we’ll be choosing a theme that fits with the Osprey lifestyle. Since we’ve hit the ground running into 2011, we figured there was no better theme than “taking a leap”. So all month we’ll be highlighting people, organizations that are going for it — leaping, diving and running as fast as they can to live this life. Welcome to the Osprey Friday Round-Up!
We’re still digging ourselves out of Outdoor Retailer withdrawals, but we managed to pull together a list of a few of our favorite things from the show…
You really “Like” us! Thanks to everyone for spreading the Osprey love over the last few weeks to push us over 10,000 Facebook fans. To celebrate, we brought together a few of our favorite things to share with all of you at Outdoor Retailer: Timmy O’Neill, beer and trucker hats. Take a gander at some of the fabulous shots from our party in the gallery below… More here. Have any shots of your own from the party or OR? Share them on our Flickr page!
Giving back to our wildlands. It wouldn’t be OR, if we didn’t do something to give back to the very places that form the bedrock of our industry. We’re proud to have joined dozens of other Conservation Alliance member companies in raising more than $40,000 for the Alliance. All of which will go directly to protecting the wild places we love.
We also joined Winter Wildlands Alliance for a packed showing of the Backountry Film Festival. It’s hard not to be inspired after watching such awesome films that celebrate the human-powered experience to the max. Excited to be a part of the movement. Keep an eye out for screenings near you!
And finally, thank you to REI for naming Osprey Packs your 2010 Vendor of the Year in the Camping Division! Lots of love and gratitude to REI and Outdoor Retailer!
Nothing’s more exciting than having Timmy O’Neill come to your door and give you a Hornet 24. And a digeridoo. Help us get to 10,000 fans by January 20, 2011 and you might win too!
ARVE Error: no id set
We’re working our way towards 10,000 fans by the end of 2011, and along the way our very own Timmy O’Neill is visiting some of our lucky fans.
Want the chance to win some free gear too? All you have to do is friend us on Facebook! Help us get to 10,000 fans by the end of the year by spreading the Osprey love and encouraging your friends to do the same.
