“This event is a celebration of the many outdoor recreation opportunities our region and Five Rivers MetroParks offer,” Said Rebecca Benna, Executive Director of Five Rivers MetroParks. “It is a way for everyone to personally connect with nature and experience the outdoors. It’s a chance not only for expert adventurers to further their skills, but for families to try something new.”
We are thrilled to attending this year’s Midwest Outdoor Experience in Dayton, Ohio, the “Outdoor Adventure Capital of the Midwest.” With more than 15,500 acres of land, 270 miles of river corridor and 160 miles of managed trails for hiking, cycling, mountain biking and horseback riding, the Five Rivers Metro Parks is the place for outdoor adventure! On October 3rd and 4th, the Five Rivers MetroPacks will host Outdoor events and the best part is the event is free! Here are some key events you will want to check out while at the Midwest Outdoor Experience:
IMBA Bike Village- Osprey partner and non-profit IMBA, whose mission is to create, enhance and preserve great mountain biking experiences, will be sponsoring the Bike Village. Add to your mountain bike skills by visiting the Bike Village. Don’t forget to bring your wheels for the group rides and skills clinics!
Compete in the Great Outdoors- You can also enter several competitions, including a 12-hour endurance race or the disc golf tournament on a special course created just for this event! There is something for everyone — so check out the full list of competitions.
Live Music- Take a break and enjoy live music programmed by 91.3 FM WYSO and the Dayton Music Fest, featuring local acts at the Osprey stage! As you can tell from our #MusicMondays, we dig those live beats so we are sponsoring some amazing live music. Look for an array of our packs that will be decorating the stage!
Waste Free in 3- Festival vendors and volunteers have committed to keeping this event plastic-free and will not sell plastic water bottles or use Styrofoam. Instead, they will provide compostable or locally recyclable utensils. Show your support for this initiative and take part by bringing your own water bottle, pint mug, utensils — or purchase a reusable stainless steel bottle for the water stations and Great Lakes Beer Garden.
For more details over the many events taking place this weekend, check out the complete schedule.
Don’t forget to stop by the Osprey booth — we will be having quite a few activities (such as demos and chances to win a pack)! Here’s the scoop:

Osprey is 40 years young! I fondly recall the moment I selected “Osprey” for the new company, way back in 1974. At that time this beautiful bird was an endangered species and I thought, if that bird can survive the next few tough years, so can this new company! Like the bird, Osprey Packs has flourished since then, and continues to grow and multiply. Over all these years, we at Osprey have had the pleasure to meet and work with some of the finest, warmest people involved in this wonderful, friendly industry. We are indebted to all of you out there who have supported Osprey along the way, through thick and thin, and have made the last 40 years so fun and rewarding!
-Mike Pfotenhauer, Osprey Packs founder and Head Designer
Since 1974, when Osprey Packs was founded by Mike Pfotenhauer in the front of his rented house in Santa Cruz, California, our mission has been to create innovative high performance gear that reflects our love of adventure and our devotion to the outdoors. For five glorious July days of the year, this quiet 80-acre plateau off the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway is transformed into a temporary ‘burb of music aficionados.
And Osprey wouldn’t miss it for the world! FloydFest is an Osprey favorite: we can’t resist good music, great people and of course, the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia! This year the line up is jam-packed with an incredible assortment of musicians ranging from straight-funk to reggae-vibes (and even some down-home bluegrass!). Check out the full line-up to get the all the details on who’s playing July 23-27, 2014.
If you’re thinking to yourself that this festival couldn’t possibly get any more inviting, then we’ve got to mention the wide variety of Outdoor Activities that will be going on all weekend! Take a break from the vivacious jams and get some fresh air in the Blue Ridge Mountains — there will be fantastic outdoor events happening each day of the festival. (more…)

The Sherwood Forest is calling our name…and we are ready to return!
When asked to describe the Forest, it’s difficult to find the right words. Those who have participated in the experience that is Electric Forest understand the life-changing event June 26th-29th in the tiny community of Rothbury, Michigan.
A rural town of 400 quickly becomes a buzzing “city” of 30,000 when people from all over the world come together for a weekend of live music performances and life-size art installations set in the depths of the woods amid the trees, which are lit up with an electric, glowing light once night falls. Need we explain why we’ve decided to return?
Here are a few of the unique activities that you will only find at the Osprey Packs tent — so don’t forget to stop by! And remember: BIRD IS THE WORD! (more…)
Osprey Packs is a proud sponsor of Mountainfilm in Telluride — we’re honored to have supported this incredible event for 10 years!
Started in 1979, Mountainfilm in Telluride is one of America’s longest-running film festivals. Through the years, in and out of trends and fads, the Mountainfilm in Telluride Festival has always been best described by one unchanging word: inspiring. Far more than any other adjective, that’s how festival audiences describe their experience.
Mountainfilm is dedicated to educating, inspiring and motivating audiences about issues that matter, cultures worth exploring, environments worth preserving, adventures worth pursuing and conversations worth sustaining.

Dare to believe in our common humanity.
Six years ago, Shannon Galpin walked away from her career as an athletic trainer and used her own limited funds to launch Mountain2Mountain and “be the change” she wished to see in the world. Today, Shannon and the M2M team, are just returning from their latest trip to Afghanistan where they launched the Streets of Afghanistan project and rode bicycles through Kabul to raise awareness of cultural barriers and empower women and girls in conflict regions.
We believe in the power of voice as a catalyst for social action.
Here at Osprey, we are proud to support Shannon and M2M’s work, both in the US and in Afghanistan. This year in particular, we’re incredibly proud of Shannon, who is one of the National Geographic Adventure’s Adventurer of the Year nominees—and you can vote for her throughout all of November and into January! To celebrate and stoke the fire of Shannon’s work, we’re highlighting this incredible organization for the entire month of November. Please join us and spread the word about M2M.
Here’s what you can do:
- Use your voice. Share a photo or video from M2M with your online network on Facebook. Make sure to tag M2M and Osprey Packs in your post.
- Tell a story. Post a photo of your own on the Osprey Packs Facebook wall. Your photo can be of someone that inspires you, or an image that you believe exemplifies our common humanity. Just make sure to write a short caption that tells us about your image.
At the end of the month, we will be choosing three people at random to highlight right here on our blog and Facebook page and we will also award each winner with an Osprey Raptor Hydration Pack!
Please share your stories between November 7 and 29. We will choose three winners on Friday, November 30. You can share and submit from anywhere in the world, but we will only ship prizes to addresses within the United States and Canada.
