Friday Round Up: Canyonlands National Park

March 30th, 2012

We see a lot of great photos throughout the week. So, we thought it was high-time we started rounding up some of our faves each week and highlighting one each Friday on our blog to inspire our weekend adventures. We call it the Osprey Round Up.

We are fortunate to have Canyonlands National Park right in our backyard… so when David Taus posted this spring photo from Canyonlands National Park on our Facebook page, we knew we had to share. And we know the feeling of anticipation and excitement that comes with a trip to the canyons.

The Needles. My favorite and oldest Osprey Packs (the big green silhouette from ’97!) One Alpacka Raft. One beaten up copy of Edward Abbey’s Desert Solitaire. Volker Neumann, Tim O’Shea, Peter Hoagland, Nick Novelli. Three weeks away.

Have a great time, David and friends! Happy Friday!

Friday Round Up: Mud, Rain and Wind is No Match For an Osprey

March 23rd, 2012

We see a lot of great photos throughout the week. So, we thought it was high-time we started rounding up some of our faves each week and highlighting one each Friday on our blog to inspire our weekend adventures. We call it the Osprey Round Up.

Tyler Coplea posted this great shot on Twitter this week from his ride over the weekend: “Massive rain, mud, and wind was no match for my BMC TE29 or awesome OSPREY pack!” Definitely looks like those storm clouds were rolling in.

Now, who’s ready for some spring singletrack? Happy Friday!

Tyler Coplea is a bike racer for the US BMC Mountain Bike Team while also in search for the greatest espresso in the world.

Friday Round-Up: Powder, The Gift of Sight and a Free Trip to 5Point

March 16th, 2012

Deep thoughts in BC... Photo: Gareth Martins, Osprey marketing director via Instagram

Unless you’ve been living in a deep, dark cave… You may have noticed that there is a lot of cool stuff going on out there. So, we thought it was high-time we started rounding up some of our faves each week. We call it the Osprey Round Up.

Osprey’s marketing director, Gareth Martins, has spent the last week in British Columbia’s Selkirk Mountains with Evan Stevens. Between Facebook photos and video blog posts, the two have made it pretty clear that they’ve been finding plenty of powder despite the sketchy conditions. Thanks for rubbing it in, guys. Stay safe out there!

“It requires a rare vision, perhaps one bordering on delusion, to perceive the possibility of change in the monochromatic world of the hope-blind.” — Timmy O’Neill in Elevation Outdoors.

In another corner of the world, Osprey athlete Timmy O’Neill is in Kathmandu, Nepal for the next two months studying to be an ophthalmic tech at the Tilganga Eye Institute working on behalf of the Himalayan Cataract Project and Dr. Geoff Tabin. After his stint in Nepal, Timmy will travel with Dr. Tabin to Ethiopia to put his newly learned skills to work. Read more about what Timmy is doing with the Himalayan Cataract Project in his recent story in Elevation Outdoors.

Also exciting news this week a little closer to our own backyard, Polartec launched a contest giving away an all expenses paid trip to the 5Point Film Festival next month. Free airfare and travel, lodging at Avalanche Ranch Resort, $500 and Patagonia and Polartec gear… it doesn’t get much better than that. All you have to do is enter. Good luck, we hope to see you at 5Point!

Have a great weekend and happy Friday!

Friday Round Up: Life Is Either A Daring Adventure Or Nothing

March 9th, 2012

Unless you’ve been living in a deep, dark cave… You may have noticed that there is a lot of cool stuff going on out there. So, we thought it was high-time we started rounding up some of our faves each week. We call it the Osprey Round Up.

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable.” — Helen Keller

We saw this photo of our friend and Osprey athlete Kim Havell over on her latest article for Outside Magazine and it got us thinking of all of the people we know who are out exploring this world and living life to it’s fullest right at this very moment. So here’s to our friends and to all of us who “behave like free spirits”… And here’s to finding some adventure this weekend. Happy Friday!

Friday Round Up: Ski Hard, Be Safe and Love the Life You Live

February 24th, 2012

Unless you’ve been living in a deep, dark cave… You may have noticed that there is a lot of cool stuff going on out there. So, we thought it was high-time we started rounding up some of our faves each week. We call it the Osprey Round Up… Happy Friday!

The snow is falling in the West and if you’re like us, you’re probably getting your gear ready for the weekend ahead. But with the loss of four more incredible people in last weekend’s avalanches in the North Cascades, our excitement is bittersweet. For all of you who have loved and lost someone in the mountains, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Ski hard, be safe and love the life you live.

Friday Round Up: Welcome Back Winter

February 3rd, 2012

More from Kim Havell... shredding. Photo: Perpetual Weekend

Unless you’ve been living in a deep, dark cave… You may have noticed that there is a lot of cool stuff going on out there. So, we thought it was high-time we started rounding up some of our faves each week. We call it the Osprey Round Up… Happy Friday!

The season took its sweet time to come in this year, but it’s finally here. Over the last few weeks, mountains have been dusted and in many cases, pounded, with snow and waterfalls have frozen into walls of ice. We’ve got great plans for the next few days — skiing, ice climbing, cycling and hiking our way through this first weekend of February. A lot of great shots of people out enjoying the elements have come our way, so we thought it would be best to put together a quick photo gallery of our favorites to really kick the weekend off right.

Enjoy, and happy Friday!

Friday Round Up: Artcrank Compiles Best Bike Stories From 2011

January 13th, 2012

Unless you’ve been living in a deep, dark cave… You may have noticed that there is a lot of cool stuff going on out there. So, we thought it was high-time we started rounding up some of our faves each week. We call it the Osprey Round-Up… Happy Friday!

We love riding. We really, really love riding. As our tires hit the pavement this new year, we’ve been thinking about all of the incredible rides we have to look forward to and a few in our office have even started making it official, scheduling races and writing down their bucket list of singletrack and road rides they hope to tackle in 2012. But part of what makes our future rides so exciting is the memories of adventures last year: the taste of dirt from screaming down singletrack, the nip of crisp fall air and the feeling of our breath and heart beating as we ride to work each day. That’s why we’re digging this compilation of stories from our friends at Artcrank. Just reading through these got us even more excited to keep pedaling!

via Artcrank:

For four years as a graduate student in Milwaukee, Wisconsin my bike was, in many ways, a necessary evil. It was cheap transportation, it was a set of wheels that didn’t need to be visited every hour to plug a meter, and it took me where I wanted to go on my clock. While 2011 found me stepping away from higher education and a bike-friendly commute, the past year gave me the opportunity to see my bicycle from a different perspective. Instead of being a tool of frugality and pure utility, it became a gateway to the finer things in life.

In 2011, my bike exposed me to overly ambitious single-track, the wonders of a quality chamois, an appreciation of PBR tallboys, all-weather neighborhood rides, a leaner build, and number of friendships that have made my return to the Twin Cities a ton of fun.

So here’s to more of the same in 2012.

These stories are seriously awesome, so make sure to click on over to Artcrank’s blog for the rest of them here and here.

Friday Round-Up: Happy Holidays!

December 23rd, 2011

Unless you’ve been living in a deep, dark cave… You may have noticed that there is a lot of cool stuff going on out there. So, we thought it was high-time we started rounding up some of our faves each week. We call it the Osprey Round-Up… Happy Friday!

This week, we celebrated our leap into winter — and that every day from here is just a little bit longer and more sunny. And along with the sun, we’re training our eyes to the sky to catch a glimpse of fresh snow. As excited as we are to close up shop for the holidays and spend some time with our families, and searching for power, we’ve also found ourselves thinking back to the year we’re about to close. It’s been a year full of wonderful people, inspiring causes and creative growth. We can’t ask for much more than that!

Thank you to all of you who support Osprey. We wish you a happy holiday season!
