The Search for Animal (snow) Chin
The latest update from Osprey Athletes Mike & Andy Traslin takes inspiration from The Search for Animal Chin, a 1987 skateboarding film featuring the infamous Bones Brigade and one of the first skateboarding films to have a plot. Considered a genre-changing film it features skateboarding legends Lance Mountain, Tommy Guerrero, Steve Caballero, Mike McGill, Tony Hawk, and Rodney Mullen on an epic quest:
Seeing Animal Chin in 1987 was confusing because there was nothing like it. “When I first saw Animal Chin back in 1988, I remember thinking ‘Was this a real movie?’” Former Powell-Peralta pro Eric Ricks said. “I thought it was an actual Hollywood production with skateboarders in it. It was completely different than any skate video I had seen before.” Prior to Animal Chin, the handful of skate videos that existed either documented contests like Savannah Slamma or were straight-forward promotional videos promoting a team’s riders. -Vice Magazine
In The Search for Animal Chin, the Bones Brigade crew travels around California, Nevada & Hawaii to different skate shops in search of the wise Won Ton “Animal” Chin. The movie is an old-school, nomadic, skate-everything-in-your-path genre with interludes of stopping to rip-up a big ramp, pool or kicker. After much searching and skateboarding, the Bones Brigade locate a large ramp in the desert. They also find a Chinese character on the inside of the ramp’s spine. They conclude that in searching for Mr. Chin, they may have found his spirit. – Wikipedia

It was time for us to go searching for the Animal (Snow) Chin. A low snowpack is no excuse, you have to ski tour farther and climb higher. It could take days, weeks, maybe years. Maybe forever. It does not matter, as long as you keep searching.
The Animal (Snow) Chin is out there somewhere…
