The Bird is The Word at Appalachian Trail Days!

The 25th anniversary celebration of Appalachian Trail Days is now complete and what a celebration it was as Osprey had the best and busiest Trail Days ever! Over a three-day period we repaired almost 60 packs and sent thru-hikers far and wide on their merry way to Mount Katahdin for an October rendezvous. We provided multiple free pack sizings and fittings as well as a wealth of information on pack options new and existing to get any thru-hiker comfortably down the trail.

We were joined in booth by Osprey founder, owner and lead designer Mike Pfotenhauer who met with hikers on Friday to field their individual questions and listen to their tales from the trail and then ended the day with a sweet bluegrass set from Old North State. Who would have thought one would have to travel all the way to Virginia to get fine, Durango Bluegrass!?

On Saturday, Mike was on hand for an in-store appearance at Mount Rogers Outfitters where he sized and fitted folks for their next Osprey and subsequently got to throw out the ceremonial first water balloon from the roof of Mt. Rogers Outfitters as the annual Hiker’s Parade passed below. In between all of these happenings he and his wife, Diane Wren, provided expert gear repairs and sewing for the Osprey repair booth making sure that each hiker who dropped a pack at the Osprey booth for repair was supremely taken care of.

We captured nearly five hours of professional video footage during the event which will now be turned into 2-3 Trail Days videos so stay tuned for that! As well, the Osprey 20% off sale at Mt. Rogers Outfitters celebrating Trail Days in all its glory was a huge hit with Osprey Packs flying off the wall and onto the backs of hikers headed down the trail with their summer loads.

This positive, rewarding Trail Days experience was a total team effort on Osprey’s behalf and we could not have pulled it off without the able bodied assistance of the greatest rep group in the Southeast, Outdoor Sports Marketing, whose staff of Nolan Davis, Scott Eddins, KC Corbett and Cullen Mann went out of their way to show us the true meaning of southern hospitality. As well, Pack Master Otis Williams, who provided the bulk of Osprey gear repairs and Warranty Queen Alix Skala, get special thanks for their efforts above and beyond to take care of the packs of every thru hiker we saw.

Osprey truly loves this rewarding event as it allows us to gauge the performance of our packs for the long haul and interact with those folks whose trail success depends upon your product. Thank you Damascus and thank you AT thru hikers for another successful and fun event! We will see you all in 2012 and thanks once again for flying Osprey and making the Bird the Word!

Over and out!
