Osprey Takes a Tour of Puerto Rico

El Yunque Rain Forest

Once or twice each year, Francisco and I lead educational tours of Puerto Rico for students visting from the mainland US.

The tours are 7-day trips that start in the capital, San Juan, and move on to the island’s second largest city, Ponce, and the fishing town of La Parguera. Along the way, kids experience the El Yunque Rain Forest,

the Camuy Caves,

and one of Puerto Rico’s three bioluminescent bays.

When we finished our tours this year, we took an extra week to explore places we’d never visited when we lived on the island between 2005 and 2007. Our Osprey packs loaded with camera and baby gear, we visited:

the 42nd Annual Flower Festival in Aibonito,

the Fatima Convent in Guanica,

and the town of Yauco, nationally famous for its coffee.

If you’re headed to Puerto Rico and would like help trip planning, don’t hesitate to contact us: writingjulie[at]gmail[dot]com. We’ve lived and worked on the island for several years and were contributing writers and photographers to Fodor’s Puerto Rico, 6th edition, which hits shelves in August.
